Medical Complications of Pregnancy

Many women have preexisting medical conditions that may complicate their pregnancies. 

Common reasons for women to seek Maternal Fetal Medicine consultation or be to referred to our office are:  Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes mellitus, Asthma, Hypertension, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, Epilepsy, history of blood clots, maternal obesity, sickle cell disease, bowel conditions such as Crohn disease or Ulcerative colitis and women with underlying heart disease or kidney disease.  We work closely with your other health care providers to determine an optimal treatment course if needed. 

Medication use

Many patients are referred for help in determining whether medications they are currently taking are safe to use during pregnancy.  We work together with you and your other physicians to individualize your treatment taking care to balance the risks and benefits to both you and your fetus.
